Can you guys believe this is my first time ever trying a translucent powder? I’ve been wearing makeup officially for 2+ years and I never thought to try one until one of my favorite brands decided to release one, go figure. I must say though that I have easily become a fan of using one and I’m now like “how was I even going on without one?”, but using a translucent powder has definitely become a staple in my makeup routine and it should be one in yours too!

ILIA Beauty’s Fade Into You is described as a “light universal finishing powder, packaged in a refillable brush component”, and it does wonderfully at setting your makeup as a whole or even just your t-zone if that’s what you prefer. It’s perfect for setting cream products like my favorite cream blushes from Kjaer Weis, Revolution Organics, and RMS Beauty as well as mattifying my favorite lipsticks too. I really love the whole idea of this translucent powder coming with a brush head but the powder only dispenses in the middle of the brush which makes application pretty tricky and pretty frustrating too. So I have literally bypassed using the brush all together and have been unscrewing it and pouring out some of the powder and applying it with my Real Techniques Powder brush.

Although application seems to be somewhat of a nuisance I do really love the light and silky texture of this powder and it applies very smoothly and does not make the skin appear cakey at all. It also does not leave a white cast and skin looks like skin while wearing this as well. I apply it all over after doing my makeup and it does amazing at setting my cream products especially my blushes and concealer. I’ve been in love with this new addition to my makeup routine and this powder has really done great at keeping the oiliness of some of the makeup I use at bay.

I was thinking the brush would make touch ups on the go a lot easier but it turns out that since I don’t use the brush, touch ups are not all that easy after all. I’m definitely looking to try out RMS Beauty’s “Un” Powder Up soon now too since I really like using a translucent powder now. Have any of you tried it? Or have any of you tried ILIA’s Fade Into You? If so, what are your thoughts?

Where you can get it!

Refills will be available Summer 2014.

The formula seems nice but I’m not liking the packaging. I have tried RMS unpowder. Although I loved it at first, over time I noticed it was drying out my skin. I’m very oily but dehydrated and I think it made the dehydration worse. Probably due to the pure silica formulation. I now use and love W3ll people’s powder. I like the non drying ingredients. Ilia’s seems similar.

Thank you for this info Nailea! I may end up trying the W3ll People one as well since it sounds like a winner. I have really dry skin so I obviously don’t need something that will dry me out even more so this is very nice to know. Thanks again xoxo

I’m a newbie when it comes to translucent powder. Do you think it’s okay to use it on its own to help keep the skin matte?

    • Audreiana says:

Hi Hinna! I think so, this product does an awesome job at mattifying the skin without drying it out so I think it would work well doing so on your skin alone as well. I know a lot of people who use translucent powders that way too, thanks for your comment!

It really sounds perfect as a light powder , I want to try out so much from Ilia – everything from them always seems to get positive reviews x

Hey Tania, you definitely must! I would start out with their lip conditioners and lipsticks they’re awesome and I think you will love them too. xoxo

Fantatic review Audreiana! You’re not alone, I have never tried a translucent powder either, but with Summer ahead and my oily skin, I’m seriously considering getting one. Thank you for pointing out the little application issue with the brush. That’s very good to know! xo
