I was super excited to buy an Ilia Beauty lipstick because one, these lipsticks are all the rage right now, and two I’m all for a lipstick that promises loads of color yet still yields pretty clean ingredients. It was super easy for me to choose a shade based on the fact that I’ve been in love with different shades of purple glosses and lipsticks this winter, and plus I was really wanting a lipstick that could possibly be the life of the party like Ink Pot is. So of course I naturally gravitated towards Ilia Beauty’s gorgeous shade in Ink Pot because it’s pretty bad,
like Rihanna bad.
Ilia Beauty’s lipstick in Ink Pot ($24.00, 3.5g) is described as “a violent, violet hue that leans itself away from the rest, standing out on its own as a bold, unique shade. Ink Pot is for those who like to take a risk and benefit from its rush.” I mean, come on guys that description alone made me rush out and buy it, it excited me and I can’t really remember the last time that I was actually excited to purchase a lipstick like some of the girls over at MAC can be. I just knew that I just had to have this in my collection because it is truly a unique and very bold shade plus its limited edition.
This lipstick really reminds me of a late night out on the town and living life to the fullest because this lipstick is not just your ordinary everyday shade. I would say it is perfect for the night if you choose to layer it on to its full opacity because it may be too loud for a day look but blotted on it is just as beautiful as a lip stain that can certainly be worn during the day.
I would say Ink Pot is a very vibrant violet purple color although I initially thought it would be deeper and more on the vampy side based on the swatch on the Ilia Beauty website. This shade is actually reminiscent of the bright bold hues that a lot of us parade around in during the summer. It has a slight sheen to it so it is not entirely matte.
Ink Pot applied very smoothly on the lips gliding across them much like a lip balm does without pulling or tugging on the lips. This lipstick really reminds me so much of a tinted lip balm because although this lipstick is extremely bright, bold, and pigmented I could still see through to the color of my lip line a bit. So this lipstick is semi-opaque but not entirely opaque. It has a very smooth hydrating texture and doesn’t dry out the lips at all. I found that it does bleed and feather a little throughout the day if you over apply the lipstick though.
I really love the packaging on these lipsticks because they are so sleek and cute so I found myself wanting to pull this lipstick out of my bag just to reapply it even if I didn’t really need to. It lasted about 4 hours but left a nice stain for about 2 hours after that. I wore this lipstick layered at its full potential and it lasted pretty well even after subjecting it to a meal and a drink.
It’s a super bright purple that I feel would be awesome even in the summer. But I must say that this might not be for the non risk taker or the one that it not used to wearing a lipstick but it can be blotted on and worn as a nice light lip stain to ease your way into the lip color. I think this lipstick would work gorgeously on just about any skin tone especially those with a deeper complexion like mine so do you dare?
Do you dare to stand out and take a risk with Ilia Beauty’s Ink Pot? I highly recommend it not only for its color but the quality of the packaging and the formula. Is anyone else looking to try Ilia Beauty’s lipstick? If so, would you try out this shade? If not, which one?
