I have to say that I was very excited to try this concealer hoping it would be my holy grail but I am a bit on the fence about this one. I do truly adore the packaging and of course the ingredients but the actual shade and the coverage of this concealer is a bit sub par.
Vapour Beauty’s Illusionist Concealer in 050 (11 oz, $22) is described as a concealer that “has a high pigment load for areas that need extra coverage. It will not deposit in lines and does not clog pores. Illusionist’s light touch instantly gives the skin a healthier and more even appearance.” Vapour Beauty’s website also goes on to list that it:
- Moisturizes, brightens complexion
- Evens skin tone
- Diminishes the appearance of fine lines and pores
- Enhances natural glow
- Lightweight and breathable
- Quick and easy stick application
- No tools needed; blends beautifully into the skin with fingertips
I would describe this concealer as a golden brown frost shade with light shimmer. Judging from the concealer when opening up it up I would have never guessed that it would appear this way onto the skin. This in particular threw me off because I expect a concealer to mimic the skin tone and I know that none of us have a skin tone with slight shimmer to it unless you are Edward Cullin from Twilight.
The shade worked nicely on the eyelids to mute out the pigmentation there because it mimicked a golden brown cream eye shadow when applied. As for covering up dark circles, fine lines, and wrinkles I don’t think this is the formula for that. Mainly because this concealer is a bit too sheer and not that opaque enough to effectively cover really dark circles let alone any fine lines or wrinkles. I also noticed that the slight shimmer in it did make the area, where applied, appear to glow but it also brought about much unwanted attention to the area that you’d probably like to draw attention away from in this instance since the concealer doesn’t effectively cover your dark circles.
So it does brighten up the area in the sense that it gives you a glowey shimmer like a highlighter would but it doesn’t help even out the skin tone under the eyes. I also experienced some minor creasing right under my lash line in my under eye area without setting it with a powder.
It is a very lightweight and breathable concealer because it is not at all a heavy formula so you won’t even feel as though you are wearing anything. It has a nice creamy consistency so it does leave the eye area feeling very moisturized and not dried out. The application is super convenient because of its stick application which is much like a lipstick with how you twist the tube to get the product out to apply it. It is also extremely easy to work the product into your skin with your fingertips which was very nice.
Overall, I really liked the convenience and the application of this product and how nice it wore on the eyelids because it seems it would work great as a base for eye shadow application as well although I didn’t test it out for this. However it didn’t effectively cover my dark circles or fine lines in my under eye area and I wasn’t very keen on the fact that it was a frost and has some shimmer to it.
But yeah, have any of you tried out this concealer? I’m curious to know others experiences with it. So, leave it in the comments below. Or just comment to say hi
