I often stay home some days and play with my makeup and experiment with different looks and products. I do this a lot when I just can’t stand to let a product go to waste because often times you can get some products that didn’t initially work out, to work in ways you never really thought of so here is the Vapour Organic Beauty Illusionist Concealer revisited! If you read my blog or follow me on twitter (@trubeaubynature) you’ll know that I just recently reviewed this concealer here, but I’m now on to a way that I can actually use this concealer instead of under my eyes for my dark circles which just doesn’t seem to work for me.
My initial review was on the shade 050 but I was sent the shade 060 (which is the darkest shade) to try out to see if that shade worked better for me, and it does. It turns out that this shade works much better with my skin tone and also for this new way I plan on using it so I was happy about that part. The shade 050 was clearly lighter than my skin tone and I did this purposely because I usually like my concealer to be 1-2 shades lighter than my skin tone when using it on my under eye area, but since I won’t be using this concealer for that it is not necessary.
As I stated before I love this on my eyelids and although I am not too fond of using this under my eyes I found a way to effectively use it so it won’t be going to waste. I’ve recently started using it on the bridge of my nose, my chin area, Cupid’s bow, at the top of my cheek bones, and on my brow bone as a highlight!
These are the areas that benefited most from the shimmer in this concealer because it does a great job at reflecting light to these areas. It works nice as a subtle highlight and draws attention to these areas by reflecting light to them and wearing it in the specific areas I’ve mentioned just brings dimension and so much life to your face!
Since this concealer has a light creamy consistency it is super easy to apply with your fingers and also with the stick applicator to highlight before contouring. I found that I had to layer it on to get the desired affect because this formula is very sheer. It works best in these areas because it feels as though you aren’t wearing anything and its not the least bit cakey so it gives you such a natural glow because the formula is not too heavy. I think the fact that people often use a concealer to highlight before contouring makes this concealer work best for this because it reflects light to the areas where you apply it yet it is not too dramatic.
It never donned on me why a concealer would even include shimmer in it ( I thought this was some sort of practical joke) until Vivi got me thinking about the fact that the shimmer in it is most likely the aspect of the product that gives the “illusion” of a brighter area and reflects light. I can see how this could be because when wearing this it gives the illusion of light with the added shimmer and it also draws attention to an area so it works really well for highlighting purposes where you want to emphasize the places where we’d like light to reflect off of our face.
Like I stated in my previous review this concealer isn’t very opaque and it is sheer so it offers very light coverage. I found that blending it in really well with your fingers lessened the shimmery look if that is something that bothers you but when using this to highlight before contouring this aspect of the concealer actually works to your benefit.
Since I will not be using this as an everyday concealer for my dark circles I will definitely be using this on my eyelids and also as a highlight when I highlight and contour since I’ve found my better shade. It gives a very subtle and natural highlight to your face since the formula is sheer but is still effective in drawing light to certain areas like a luminizer would, yet it works as both a luminizer and concealer.
Have any of you tried it this way? If not, would you consider trying it out this way? It works just like it would if you were to mix your favorite concealer with a luminizer to create a more “subdued highlighter” like the ladies over at No More Dirty Looks are doing. Give it a go! I added a swatch for you guys just in case someone out there is interested in the shade 060. Enjoy!
